Nixxes project: Dreamcast Conversion
Our first project was bringing this highly successful (over 1.5 million copies sold) Sony Playstation game to the Sega Dreamcast. While the Dreamcast was a much more powerful machine, we wanted to aim high, and use this to drastically improve upon the original.
We aimed at making the game run at a continuous 60 frames a second, while also working with the team at Crystal Dynamics to improve the detail on a large amount of characters. Even with the fairly short development time allowed we managed to get all this in, and ship in time for an early 2000 release
Soul Reaver takes place within the fictional world of Nosgoth, where the health of the land is tied to the nine Pillars of Nosgoth, and each pillar in turn is represented by a guardian. Before the events of Soul Reaver, the guardians became corrupt, and, after Kain killed eight of them, he discovered he was the final one. Refusing to sacrifice himself to restore the Pillars, he doomed Nosgoth to eternal decay and proceeded to raise his vampire lieutenants, including Raziel, to besiege the land.
